A BITE ABOUT US

D-SATA by CuR:

ethical and environmentally conscientious accessories designer Currie Lee, esq. retired from practicing law -licensed in New York, and has since been scribbling " sketching her designs on a worn " torn legal pad, and, hand-selecting the most exquisite of materials for each of her collections during monthly trips -from a trek into a T’boli Tribe in Northern Luzon to a shopping spree on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

DimSum of all things Asian : D-SATA by CuR was borne from her love of ‘all things’ vintage, particularly her mum and grandmum’s collection of haute-couture, and, her many trips from Asian ‘minority villages’ to ‘cosmopolitan metropolises’, where she fell in love with ‘all things’ Asian.

Inspired by her private collection of inherited vintage clutches, D-SATA by CuR’s couture clutches infuse the traditional with the contemporary to create inimitable designs that have been featured in fashion magazines from Harper's Bazaar/Jewelry, L'Officiel, Madame Figaro to VOGUE, lifestyle magazines such as TATLER, and, travel magazines from Luxe City Guides, Travel+Leisure Asia’s Best of 2009 to ELLE ITALIA's 2011 International Shopping Guide.

D-SATA’s DESIGNERS

  • CuR Currie, originally named Curie after Madame Curie the Chemist by her Chemistry professor father, decided that Chemistry was “so not cool (not knowing that using the word “cool” was not cool)” and uncreatively insisted that an additional “r” be added to her name.

Following this fuss, Currie Lee, esq. decided that she would become an attorney (she is licensed in New York) only to scribble & sketch her designs on all her legal documents and be referred to as the “Legally Blonde” the Asian edition (how absolutely embarrassing!).

Following this fiasco, CuR decided to follow her boarding school dreams of designing (although her childhood of living in country to country and her current lifestyle of traveling from country to county perhaps make her official occupation a nomad.

  • Victoria Victoria is CuR’s French Bulldog and Design Diva. She is also CuR’s muse and master. Her loves are: herself, and, “all things” Victoria. Her hates are ginormous baggies.
  • Victor Victor is CuR’s French Bulldog who was rescued from the streets of Shanghai. He fetches for and fawns over Victoria. His loves are nibbling on CuR’s favorite baggies and kissing Victoria’s perfectly pedicured paws. He has no hates as he absolutely adores everyone and anything.

The story behind DimSum of all things Asian: D-SATA by CuR

Currie Lee was born in South Korea, raised in Canada, educated in the U.S. & China, married in Italy, and honeymooned in Greece... unable to decide where to live and still jet setting from country to country, she is indeed a girl of the world!. Retired from practicing law (licensed in New York), she now scribbles & sketches her designs on a worn & torn legal pad (a force of habit from her legal career most likely) and hand-selects materials for each collection during these many trips.

CuR’s passion for fashion began with her naughtily cutting-up her mother's couture pieces (the most devastating of which was a vintage silk & feather flapper dress) to recreate fashion week with her Barbie Dolls as models, to being dolled-up herself by her grandmum and mum in skirts and jackets tailored out of the fabric from their up-cycled vintage tweed, chenille, boucle and houndstooth Chanel suits, hence her love for "all things” vintage and black & white!

Bored of accessories flaunting little more than outrageously oversized logos, she revisited her collection of timeless vintage clutches inherited from her grandmum and mum, which she had loved as being exquisite yet discreet, and has sought to embody this same sense of old-world style from bygone eras into her contemporary yet inimitable pieces that are recognizable not by their logos but their designs and materials.

DimSum of all things Asian : D-SATA by CuR and the quintessence of her belief in “waste not, want not” was borne from her love of “all things” vintage and her many trips, from “minority villages” to “cosmopolitan metropolises” throughout Asia, where she fell in love with "all things” Asian. DimSum of all things Asian: D-SATA by CuR和 “waste not, want not”的想法就是在这众多旅行和CuR对于复古事务的喜爱中诞生的。

Through each collection, CuR has expanded D-SATA’s concept of “sustainability” from “slow fashion”, as merely an antithesis to “fast fashion”, into “sustainable fashion”, as she conscientiously selects materials that are not only timeless in tradition and trends, but also “ethically and environmentally conscious”. Her pieces are hand-crafted using natural or recycled materials in Southeast Asian ‘cottage industries’ by women who earn a ‘living income’ (vs. minimum wage) which “provides for social growth, grants people the chance to work with dignity, and rests on the basic ethical value that all human life is equal regardless of geography, economy, race, gender, age or beliefs”*.

From the hand-woven Buntals and Tinalaks of minority village women to the silks, brocades & batiks of Saris, Kimonos, & Hanboks from curators of Asian culture such as Jim Thompson and many others, each of her pieces are more than just an accessory to be bought and thrown out after a season.

D-SATA by CuR精致的手工手包被许多杂志提及:从时尚杂志《Harper's Bazaar/Jewelry》《 L'Officiel时装》, 《Madame Figaro》到《VOGUE服饰与美容》,从生活品位杂志如《TATLER》到旅游类读物《Luxe City Guides》《Travel+Leisure》的“Asia’s Best of 2009” 和《ELLE意大利》的“ 2011 International SHOPPING GUIDE”,都有D-SATA by CuR的介绍。
